Duties
- Perform various tasks related to optical care and assist the optometrist or ophthalmologist in providing quality eye care services
- Conduct preliminary tests and measurements, such as visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, and peripheral vision tests
- Assist with contact lens fittings and teach patients how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses
- Prepare patients for examinations by taking their medical history and recording vital signs
- Clean and maintain optical instruments and equipment
- Assist with inventory management of optical supplies and products
- Provide exceptional customer service and assist with sales of eyewear and accessories
Experience
- Previous experience working in an optical setting is preferred but not required
- Familiarity with patient care and aseptic technique is a plus
- Knowledge of optical anatomy and systems is beneficial
- Experience with electronic medical record systems (such as Epic) is a plus
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to provide excellent customer service
- Attention to detail and ability to perform accurate measurements
- Proficiency in using optical instruments and equipment
- Knowledge of different types of lenses, frames, and contact lenses
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients of all ages, including pediatrics
